My First Running Injury ever: part 2 (turns out to be more than Muscle Strain)

I completed the prescribed two weeks of rest. I thought I'd bloat and gain 10 pounds but ended up losing two more pounds over the Holidays :D Hooray for stress-free vacation!

First week of January, I meet with my Ortho doc. I tell him about this injury - all I want is to get better so I can ease back into running and lifting. Here are some of the points (more for me to remember than for you to know):

  • On that fateful day... I was supposed to complete 10km easy pace. However, on my 6th km, there's a sudden pain on my crotch, and the pain resonates up to my left butt - that part where I feel like my thigh and my butt meet. I was slowing down from my run involuntarily until I was painfully walking. I sit down and assess the situation: it's hella painful to stand up and it's impossible for me to walk. I get picked up and we rush to the ER where I was diagnosed with "Muscle Strain". I was prescribed some muscle relaxants and some pain relievers.
  • Almost three weeks of rest later... I meet with my Ortho doc and tell him about it. He runs some stretching/moving exercises with me and comes up with something like this:
  • I should have taken a picture of what he drew for me... somehow I feel like the names on the above image don't match the muscle names he said...
  • Doc told me to get an MRI done. To check for herniated disc.
  • Doc said "no medication" until we figure out what's happening. Not a problem. Most of the pain has subsided. On the first couple of days the pain was excruciating. But now, it's kind of just dull whenever I trigger it. The problem I have right now is the involuntary limp.
So that's the current status. Still no running or any form of exercise. The lack of exercise is taking a toll on my sleep. Not a big problem, I think meditation would help :)

I'm hoping for the best! The quicker we figure out the problem, the quicker I can plan/fix my exercise schedules :)
