I stayed in a single room in Ibis Hotel -- forgot which one, but it was a fart away from a train stop so it was a pretty convenient place. I don't recommend their continental breakfast buffet unless you enjoy it... I don't. I'd prefer buying EUR2 sandwiches from the gas station nearby, or the Turkish shawarma place across the street that I only noticed on my last, last last day...
First day in Munich, lots of "first time's":
1. European Subway
2. Client's office (but we'll skip that)
3. Marienplantz sneak peek on my way to:
4. Hofbräuhaus
The European Subway is very systematic... but at the same time very confusing. I think it's because of the names of the destinations themselves -- they're not easy to remember when your language is so different from theirs. Pronouncing words/names with umlaut letters is very challenging, remembering them is impossible. It would be very practical to keep a map with you at all times. Make sure your map shows english as well as German instructions because, apparently, there is still a significant percentage of Germans who can't converse in english. I learned that the hard way...
Marienplantz is this really grand clump of architecture that is super pretty to stare at. It would have been a great place to shop... if our conversion rate wasn't 60:1.
I don't know what this building is, but it looks like a hobbit's home. It's adorable!
I only saw some of Marienplantz that day, on my way to Hofbräuhaus (I keep on copy-paste-ing that name because I can't spell it on my own... and I have no idea how to get "ä" without looking it up on Special Symbols). Hofbräuhaus is this famous bar (looks like a tavern complete with live band and attendants in costumes) where Hitler first chose his generals.
From Hofbräuhaus I went back to Ibis Hotel by myself. 10 minutes walking in the rain, 7 kind souls, 2 trains -- thank you Lord for sending my guarding angel
